Tuckers is a family owned business that has been trading since 1917 and has been a prominent part of Swansea life since. Although the location has changed the business has remained in the family since it was founded. The traditional values of hon- esty, integrity and old-fashioned service that Tuckers believed in when established still remain today.
Fashions have changed, but the demand for really top-quality food re- mains, which is why the company has continued to flourish through the years.
Tucker's was referenced by Dylan Thomas in his play "Return Journey".
In February 1941, Swansea was bombed in the 'three nights' blitz'. Castle Street, where one of Tuckers retail stores was located at the time, was just one of the many streets in Swansea that suffered badly. Dylan Thomas later wrote about this in his radio play Return Journey Home, which was first broad- cast on 15 June 1947, having been written soon after the bombing raids. He wrote;
"I went out of the hotel into the snow and walked down High Street, past the flat white wastes where all the shops had been. Eddershaw Furnishers, Curry!s bicycles, ........ Tuckers Fish, Stead & Simpson all the shops bombed and vanished."
